Ferdinand Schoening
Death came to Ferdinand S. Schoening last Friday at 11:30 a.m. after a long illness with a chronic heart ailment. He had been in Holy Family hospital for the past month.

“Ferd”, as he was known to everyone, and had been a horse buyer for a long time. He formerly was a farmer and in the early days said he had followed a big circus as an expert horseman.

He was born at Manning, December 4, 1875. The town of Manning was established as a town after Mr. Schoening’s birth. He was married to Mary Lakeman April 17, 1902. In 1920 they moved to Heron Lake, Minnesota and later to Lakefield in the same state. Then to Spirit Lake and from there to a farm near Estherville and in 1934 to this city.

Ferd was a very friendly man who made friends easily; always pleasant and agreeable and reliable in his dealings.

Mr. Schoening is survived by his widow, four sons, Adolph of Lakefield, Minn., Herbert and Lynn of Estherville, and Emil of Los Angeles; and three daughters, Vera, Mrs. John Voth of Windom, Minn., Myrtle, Mrs. W. A. Ridley of Estherville, and Hertha, Mrs. Homer Christ of Estherville. One daughter preceded him in death.

The funeral services were held on Monday from the Sternborg funeral chapel at 1:30 and from the Methodist Church, the Rev. C. J. Semans, officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 19, 1948)
