William A. Ridley
Estherville – William Allan Ridley, 59, Estherville, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 1977, at Holy Family Hospital.Services for Mr. Ridley will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Estherville, with the Rev. Max Goldman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. William Ridley, he was born on a farm near Terril on May 24, 1918. He moved to Estherville with his parents at the age of three and received his education in Estherville schools, graduating from high school in 1935. He participated in high school and city band and following graduating, in bandstands in the area.
Mr. Ridley was married to Myrtle Mae Schoening Sept. 4, 1938, at Estherville.
His many interests included woodworking, photography, and flying. Mr. Ridley was a pilot, 2nd Lt. in the Civil Air Patrol, secretary-treasurer of the Estherville flying club for 18 years and secretary-treasurer of the Estherville Airport Commission at the time of his death. He also served as local chairman of the United Transportation Union for 12 years, was a ham radio operator and member of the United Methodist Church.
Mr. Ridley is survived by his wife, Myrtle; one daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Ann) Butterfield, Vienna, Va.; three sons, Robert Ridley, Marshall, Minn., Lynn Ridley, Newport News, Va., and Neil Ridley, Estherville; and six granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents.(Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 12, 1977)
