Charles C. Rost, 74, Dies At Home
Charles C. Rost, resident of Estherville for 50 years, died last night at his home here after a lingering illness, at the age of 74.
Mr. Rost was born Sept. 11, 1879, in Jackson, Minn. He married Mary M. Claypool in 1903 at Jackson and the Rosts have lived in Estherville all of their married life.
He served as an engineer on the Rock Island railroad until his retirement in 1940 and was a member of the Locomotive Engineers. He was a member of the Union Baptist church here also.
Surviving his death are his widow; son, Eugene; daughter-in-law, Rose Sylvia Rost; and grand-daughter, Barbara Kay. Also surviving are four brothers, W. R. Rost of Estherville, John of Bovey, Minn., Henry of Bovey and Ed Rost of Estherville; and three sisters, Nettie Ketchum of Moose Lake, Minn., Mrs. Roy Coggin of Estherville and Etta Shreeves of Alberton, Mont.
Preceding him in death was a daughter, Opal Vera, at the age of 13 months.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Sandin funeral home, the Rev. Raymond Larsen officiating. Friends may all at the funeral home after tomorrow noon. The family has requested that friends may pay their respects in a memorial fund. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 24, 1953)
