Former Resident Dies; Services to Be Thursday

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating, for John Rohlf, 87, Mattoon, Ill., who died at 9 a.m. Sunday [November 9, 1969] at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, Ill. He is a former and longtime resident of Estherville.

He was born April 14, 1882, in Germany. He came to the U.S. at the age of one with his parents to Charles City. He moved to Terril in 1896 and was married in 1913 to Olive Battern at Terril.

He moved to Estherville in 1914 where he was employed by the Strube Furniture Company until his retirement in 1946. Since that time he has lived at Mattoon, Ill.

He is survived by one son, Merton, Mattoon, Ill., three great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry Rohlf, and a sister, Lena Lowery, California.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday until noon on Thursday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 10, 1969)
