Mrs. Anton Roben Rites are Tuesday
Mrs. Anton Roben, 73, longtime resident of this community, died at 12:02 yesterday afternoon at Holy Family hospital. Mrs. Roben had been in poor health for the past 10 years and hospitalized a number of times in the last four years.Marie Block, the daughter of Christian and Anna Block, was born Sept. 29, 1882 at Middelsfair, Germany. She attended school at Rafausen, Germany, and was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Shortens, Germany.
Married to Anton E. Roben in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, on Feb. 11, 1905. Mr. and Mrs. Roben then came to America to make their home, settling first in Calhoun county, Iowa, and then moving to North Dakota.
They came to Emmet county in 1915 and then moved to Welcome in 1920 where they lived for five years before moving to a farm near Superior. They lived on the farm near Superior for two years and since then the Robens have been living in or near Estherville.
Mr. and Mrs. Roben celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Feb. 11, 1955.
Survivors in addition to her husband are four children, Mrs. Edgar (Theresa) Howell of Chokio, Minn., Gerhard of Sherburn, Minn., Mrs. Larry (Elsie) Spitzer of Campbell, Calif. and Ernest of Johnson, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. Carl Franke of Chicago, Ill., 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Two children, Mrs. Alfred (Anna) Lidke and an infant daughter preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran church, the Rev. William P. Henline officiating. The body will lie in state at Sternborg funeral home until 9 a.m. tomorrow when it will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery.
