Obituary of Miss Charlotte Guile
Miss Charlotte Guile was born at Gainsville, Genesco [Wyoming] County, New York, April 3, 1840. In 1843, her family moved to Sharon, Wis., where she lived until 1885. At that place she was married to Seymour Rice, and to this happy marriage two sons were born. They were Elvin E. Rice, now of Gooding, Idaho, and Elijah Rice, of Estherville, Iowa. Her husband was a soldier on the Union side of the Civil War and served in Co. C. of the 13th Regiment Wisconsin Infantry Volunteers. His death occurred early in the war period after enlisting.Mrs. Rice moved to Carl, Adams County, Iowa, in 1886, with her family. She lived thre until 1892 when she moved to Emmet County, Iowa. She has resided here until her death last Thursday, February 26, 1931, at which time she was ninety years, ten months and 23 days old.
In her early life she became a member of the Methodist Church and lived a long, consistent Christian life, affiliating in later years with the International Bible Students’ Association.
Her life was marked by a kindly, pleasing disposition given to good works and hospitality. There are left to mourn her departure from this life, her two sons, 14 grandchildren and twenty great grand children. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 4, 1931)
