Mrs. Rathman Dies At Elgin
Well Known Superior Woman Buried Here
Mrs. Frederick Rathman, a pioneer of the Superior community, who died at the Sherman hospital at Elgin, Ill., at 3:50 a.m. Saturday [September 15, 1934], was brought to Estherville for burial Monday. Death followed a short illness with pneumonia. Services were held at 2 p.m. at the German Lutheran church with Rev. Otis Lang in charge. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery beside her husband who passed away 14 years ago.

Pall bearers were D. P. Larson, J. H. Stockberger, D. A. Reimer, Henry Wellendorf, Joe Dobberstein and Fred Sternberg, Sr.

The deceased woman was born Dec. 25, 1849 in Germany. With her husband and family she came to the United States settling in Iowa. After the death of Mr. Rathman she moved to Elgin. There she was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran church and funeral services were held for her Sunday afternoon at four prior to the shipment to Estherville.

Surviving her are a daughter Minnie of Elgin, a son William of Fergus Falls, Minn., a granddaughter, a grandson and two great granddaughters. Three daughters preceded her in death. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 18, 1934)

Mrs. Rathman Brought Here for Burial
The remains of Mrs. William Rathman, were brought here from Elgin, Ill., for burial on Monday. Mrs. Rathman was formerly a resident of this county and resided in Elgin with her daughter, Minnie Rathman, at the time of her death.

Mrs. Rathman was a woman beloved by all who knew her. For years she has been a warm friend of the editors of this paper and especially the senior editor who knew the family well.

The funeral services were held from the German Lutheran church, the Rev. Lang officiating, at two o’clock Monday afternoon. The remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery.

There are left to mourn the mother’s death, one daughter, Minnie Rathman, of Elgin, Ill., and a son, J. W. Rathman, of Fergus Falls, Minn. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, September 19, 1934)
