Hold Services for Guy Powell
Funeral services for Guy Leroy Powell, 43 years old, who died last week, were held here last Saturday afternoon with the Rev. R. T. Chipperfield in charge. Interment was made at Oak Hill cemetery. The cause of death was tumor on the brain.

Mr. Powell was born in Cooksville, Ill., and when 10 years old came with his family to Jefferson, settling on a farm. Since a youth, Mr. Powell had been engaged in farming and his experiences were those common to agricultural pursuits. His naturally strong constitution assured him of good health until the last year of his life, when the tumor developed.

Mr. Powell was unmarried and during the latter years of his life made his home with his brothers. He is survived by his aged mother and six brothers and sisters: Robert of Terril; Miles, and Eber R., and Hugh, of Swea City; Mrs. Myrtle Woolford and Mrs. Flossie Reed of Ormsby, Minn.; and two half sisters, Mrs. Party Sargent of Amoret, Mo.; and Mrs. Emma Johnston of Swea City; and one half brother, Sherman Powell of Milford. Obituary of Guy Leroy Powell
Guy Leroy Powell was born at Cooksville, Illinois, July 14, 1883. He was one of seven children born to Robert R. and Celia Powell. When a youth of ten years his people moved near Jefferson, Iowa, and settled on a farm. Ten years later they moved to Kossuth county, Iowa, and settled near Swea City, which has since been their home. Ever since a youth he has been engaged in farming and his experiences were those common to agricultural pursuits. His naturally strong constitution coupled with outdoor employment assured him of good health until the last year of his life when a tumor developed on his brain which unfitted him for his ordinary vocation. For about a year he suffered from influenza and other complications form the results of which he died February 2, 1927, aged 43 years.

The funeral services were held at Estherville, Iowa, on Saturday afternoon, conducted by the pastor of the Methodist church. Interment took place at the Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 9, 1927)
