Held Services for Mr. Wilder
Death Followed Long Illness of Aged Man Last WednesdayFuneral services for Andrew Jackson Wilder, 78 years old, who died after a long illness last Wednesday afternoon, were held at the Presbyterian church Satruday afternoon, with the Rev. P. A. Davies in charge. Burial was made in the Estherville Cemetery.
Mr. Wilder was born on April 6, 1848, at Freeport, Ill., and came to Iowa with his parents as a small child. The family lived in Grundy county for 29 years, and then came to Emmet, where they settled on a farm two miles east of Gruver. Three years ago when the farm work became too heavy for Mr. Wilder, a move was made to Estherville, so that he might be near his children.
He was married on Feb. 4, 1877, to Miss Sarah E. Stricker [Strickler] in Grundy Center. Had he lived till Feb. 4, the couple would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
He is survived by Mrs. Wilder and four children, Mrs. Vernie Lerdall of Ames, Mrs. Jessie Igou, Clarence Wilder and Clyde Wilder, all of Estherville. There are also three brothers and two sisters, Grant Wilder of White River, S. Dak., H. L. Wilder of Yakomia, Wash.; Parvin Wilder of Malville, Sask., Canada; Mrs. Nancy Taylor of Ames, and Mrs. Blary Davis of De Soto, Wis. Mr. Wilder was converted and baptized as a young man and was united with the church of God, of which he was a faithful member until the end.
Those from out-of-town who came for the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Lerdall of Ames; Harvey Taylor, a nephew, of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Burr of Bradgate; Mrs. Will Strickler of Rolfe, Fred Strickler of Bassett; Chet Alberts and Frank Alberts of Bradgate; and Mrs. Miller of Spencer.
