S.K. Twedt, Armstrong Dies at 77

ARMSTRONG -- Sigurd K. Twedt, 77, retired Armstrong farmer, died Saturday evening at Holy Family Hospital of infirmities of age.

Mr. Twedt had been a resident of Valley Vue Nursing Home at Armstrong for 3 1/2 years and had been hospitalized five days prior to his death.

Sigurd Kristian Twedt, was born July 21, 1890 in Bergen, Norway.

He came to the United States at 16 and spent one year in New York City. He went to Oklahoma where he worked as a farm laborer three years.

In 1910 he came to Story County. On Sept. 14, 1918, he married Minnie Braland at Des Moines.

The couple moved to a farm east of Armstrong, where they farmed for six years. Then they purchased a farm 3 1/2 miles northwest of Armstrong, where they farmed until retirement at Armstrong in 1958.

He was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church at Armstrong and had served on the church council for many years.

He is survived by his wife who lives at Valley Vue Nursing Home, two daughters--Mrs. Henry Alverda Jensen, Ringsted and Mrs. Russell Maxine McKean, Fairmont, Minn.; one son, Lawrence, Algona, 13 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Curtis, who died in World War II and Lester; one daughter, Mrs. Sophie Johnson and one grandson, his parents [rest of obit is unreadable].
