Death Takes Mrs. James Oelkers, 78
Mrs. James (Mabel) Oelkers, 78, died today at 9 a.m. in Holy Family Hospital. Her death was attributed to a heart attack. Mrs. Oelkers had been in failing health for the past several months.

Mabel Thorson was born July 10, 1889, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Thorson at Spirit Lake, and received her elementary and high school education in Armstrong.

She was married to Clem Peterson of Armstrong and they had one daughter, Marian. Both Mr. Peterson and Marian preceded Mrs. Peterson in death.

She later was married to James [A.F.] Oelkers, formerly of Armstrong, and they lived in Indianapolis, Ind., and later at Spirit Lake. Following Mr. Oelker’s death, Mrs. Oelkers had lived here. She and her sister, Mrs. George Shadle, lived in a four-plex apartment on Central Avenue.

Mrs. Oelkers is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Shadle, and Mrs. Ed Knowles of San Bernardino, Calif., and a brother, John Thorson of Armstrong.

She was a member of the Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary and was a Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Reese-Henry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 18, 1967)
