Mrs. Neville Pioneer Lady of Estherville Passes Away

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Neville, another pioneer woman of Estherville, passed away last Friday [August 21, 1936] afternoon at one o’clock after a long period of failing health. She was eighty-four years of age.

Mrs. Neville came to Estherville with her husband, O. Neville, in the years of 1882. Mr. Neville was engaged in the grocery business and for years was a leading business man of this city up to the time of his retirement. He passed away in 1929.

Mrs. Neville was a fine mother and very devoted to her family and her home work. She was a wonderful neighbor and was beloved by all. For many years when a small boy up to high school age, we played in the Neville back yard with the boys of the family and we well know what a motherly woman she was. It’s the boys who remember and all the boys of that neighborhood could never forget her kindness and her thoughtfulness of all our faults.

Mrs. Neville was born on January 21, 1852, at Rock Island, Ill. She was united in marriage to O. Neville on December 28, 1871. To this union three sons and three daughters were born. George Neville and Ernest Neville have passed on. Robert is in Burbank, Calif., and the three daughters, Mrs. L. Lough, Mrs. G. H. Morse and Mrs. K. V. Turner still reside in this city.

The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the home of her daughter, Mrs. K. V. Turner. Officiating was David Wade of the Christian Science church. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, August 26, 1936)
