Dale Moffit, Father of 5, Dies at 28
Dale Leslie Moffitt, 28, returning World War II veteran, died at a hospital in Sioux Falls yesterday shortly after noon. Mr. Moffit, who had been in ill health for almost five months, was moved to the Veterans hospital at Sioux City from Holy Family hospital Monday. He died of a kidney ailment.
Mr. Moffit was born in Emmetsburg on Aug. 21, 1924, and attended the public schools in rural Palo Alto county and in Emmetsburg. He was married June 2, 1944, at Jackson to Lorraine Oddson of Graettinger. Five children were born to this union.
He entered the United States Navy shortly after his marriage and served in the Pacific theater of operations during the war. He was discharged in February of 1946. After his discharge he and his family moved to Estherville where they have lived since.
Until the time of his death Moffitt was employed in the Estherville Concrete Products company here. He was a member of the American Legion and the Methodist church at Graettinger.
He is survived by his wife; children, Patty 8, Bobby 5, Dennis 4, Donna Lee 3 and Allan 10 months; his mother, Mrs. Susan Moffitt of Estherville; brothers, Clarence, Marvin and Francis all of Estherville; sisters, Mrs. Gordon Phillips of Midland, Mich., Mrs. Clark Juhl of Cylinder, Mrs. Harold Brobst and Nina Moffitt of Estherville.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Sternborg’s and at 2 p.m. in the Estherville Lutheran church. Services will be conducted by the Rev. L. G. Hinderaker. The American Legion will be in charge. Burial will be in the East Side cemetery.
Pall bearers will be R. C. Edelen, Walter Wilson, Bernard Isaacson, Glenn Cookingham, Harold Hendrickson and Richard Zitterich. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 7, 1952)
