J. L. McKay Dies; Ill Since June

John Lewis McKay, 56, died last night at Holy Family hospital where he had been a patient since June.

For the past several years Mr. McKay had been employed at the J. H. McKay and Son Lumber company.

He was born March 13, 1891, and has been living with his son, Robert. Survivors include the son, two grandchildren and one brother, Ralph, of Estherville. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 in the Mahlum and Sandin funeral chapel and at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church with the Rev. C. J. Semans officiating. Burial will be at Oakhill cemetery.

Members of the Knights of Pythias lodge of which Mr. McKay was a member, will conduct graveside services. Members are asked to meet at the lodge hall at 1 p.m. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 20, 1947)

J. L. McKay Died Saturday in Local Hospital

John Lewis McKay, 56, a life long resident of Emmet County passed away last Friday evening at the Holy Family hospital after a long illness.

“Lew”, as he was known to all his acquaintances was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. McKay. He resided on a farm west of the city and attended our public schools.

Mr. McKay has been employed at the J. H. McKay and Son lumber firm for years. He was well and favorably known in this city and had a host of friends.

He is survived by his son, Robert, with whom he has resided. Two grandchildren and his brother, Ralph, also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday from the Mahlum and Sandin funeral chapel at 1:30 and from the Methodist Church, the Rev. C. J. Semans officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, September 25, 1947)
