J. L. McDonald Passes at Cedar Rapids

J. L. McDonald, a former well known farmer of this township died Sunday [March 12, 1933] evening at his home in Cedar Rapids. Mr. McDonald was 58 year old and has been in declining health for several years.

During his 20 year residence in Emmet county, he had been prominent in the affairs of the county serving for 5 ½ years as supervisor, from July 9, 1919 until Jan. 1925. Following the death of his older son last spring he and Mrs. McDonald retired from the farm and moved to Cedar Rapids to be near their other children Glen B. McDonald and Mrs. O. B. McGuire.

Funeral service will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon at two thirty in Estherville, at the Presbyterian church following short prayer service at the Mahlum and Anderson funeral chapel Rev. A. G. Bailey, pastor of the Presbyterian church will be in charge. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 14, 1933)

J. L. McDonald Funeral Services Were Held This Afternoon
Word was received here Monday morning announcing the death of J. L. McDonald in Cedar Rapids on Sunday evening.

Mr. McDonald was formerly from this city. For years he resided on his farm which lied just south of the airport in the eastern portion of the city.

Sometime ago he sold the farm and went to Cedar Rapids to reside. He has been in failing health for some time past.

Mr. McDonald when here was a very active farmer. He took a great interest in all fairs and farm activities. He had a host of friends in this city and was always interested in city affairs. He was a man who appreciated the fact that the interests of the business men and the farmer was alike in farming communities.

The funeral services will be held in this city this afternoon, the Rev. Arthur Bailey officiating. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 15, 1933)
