He passed away at the Coleman hospital Friday afternoon. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Longman home and 2:30 at the Baptist church with the Rev. G.E. Forrsell in charge. Burial was in the Oak Hill cemetery.
Longman was injured April 9th when the car he was driving collided with a Spencer car during the heavy fog that night. Some time ago he had suffered a broken knee cap while employed at the Estherville Packing plant. During the automobile accident his knee cap was broken again and he also suffered other injuries. His condition seemed to be favorable but last week infection set in and this caused his death.
Mr. Longman was born in Estherville, May 21, 1912, the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Longman. He has lived in Estherville during his entire life. For a number of years he was associated with his father cleaning and repairing cisterns. When the Estherville Packing Plant opened in Estherville he was employed there until his injuries prevented him from further work.
Besides his parents, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mae Wilson and one brother, Clyde Longman, both of Estherville. He is preceded in death by one brother.
Mr. Longman has been a kind brother and dutiful son. He will be greatly missed by his parents and his brother and sister who grew to rely on him for a great many things. Although he has been physically handicapped since his accident he was ever cheerful and considerate of his family and friends. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, April 29, 1941)
