Mrs. Nettie Ketchum Dies at 89
Mrs. Edward James (Nettie Rost) Ketchum of Bovey, Minn., 89, a former Estherville resident died Thursday [March 14, 1963] in a nursing home at Bovey of complications of old age.
Funeral services are being held at Bovey today and then the body will be brought to Estherville where last rites will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fuhrman Funeral Home. The Rev. Rawlin Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Friends may call at Fuhrman Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Tuesday until time of services.
Mrs. Ketchum, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Rost, was born Dec. 4, 1874, in Jackson county, Minn., and was educated in the Jackson county schools.
She and her sister Molly came to Estherville as young women to learn dressmaking under a Mrs. Hutchinson and they lived with her here.
Mrs. Ketchum was married in 1898 to Edward James Ketchum in Estherville and they made their home here until Mr. Ketchum retired as a Rock Island engineer in 1923. They moved to Bovey in 1923 and Mr. Ketchum died in 1925.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include one son, Claude R. Ketchum of Mount, Minn.; two grandchildren, James Ketchum of Minneapolis and Mrs. Charles (Betty) Nordine of Rochester, six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Etta Shrees of Missoula, Mont.; and Mrs. Roy Goggin of Estherville; and two brothers, John Rost of Bovey and Ed Rost of Estherville. She was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters and three brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 18, 1963)
