Funeral Services For Joe Kinnard To Be Held Thursday P.M.
Joe Kinnard who has been in the Oakdale Sanitarium near Iowa City for some time, passed away last Monday [February 28, 1936] evening at about7 o’clock according to a message received by his father, Thomas Kinnard.
Joe has been ill for several years, but has been in failing condition for two years. He was born and reared in this city and was educated in the schools of this city. Joe was a hard worker, always pleasant to everyone and had a host of friends. The remains will be brought here for burial.
The funeral services will be held from the Estherville Lutheran church Thursday afternoon at 1:45 with Rev. Mathre officiating. Interment will be made in the family lot in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 4, 1936)
Joseph Ingvald Kinnard
Joseph Ingvald Kinnard was born December 1, 1904 in Estherville, Iowa, the eldest son of Thomas and Anna Kinnard. On the 23rd of April following he was baptized by Rev. T. C. Thompson of the Estherville Lutheran Church.He grew to manhood here, receiving his education in the schools of Estherville. For some time he worked for the Rock Island railroad with the Bridge and Building Dept. The last years he has been employed by the Johnson Oil Company and other local oil stations.
On the 26th of November, 1924, he was united in marriage to Tilda Violet Shaw of Morrison, Iowa. Two sons have been born to them, Carol Thomas, age 11 and Joseph Ingvald, age 5.
Mr. Kinnard has suffered from diabetes about three years. In October he went to Iowa City for treatment. In December an operation was performed from which he never fully rallied. He was reported as doing fairly well, but Monday evening the message came that he had passed away at the hospital in Iowa City. His wife had been called down there and had visited him a couple of weeks before but left him with some hopes for his recovery.
Besides his sorrowing wife and two young sons, he leaves his father and mother and the following brothers and sisters to mourn his departure: Mrs. Lars Thompson of Graettinger; Mrs. Ernest Hanson of Estherville and Edwin, William, Evelyn, Elizabeth and Robert, all of Estherville.
The funeral was held Thursday, March 5th, at the Estherville Lutheran Church with Rev. L. A. Mathre officiating. A quartet consisting of Jennie and Josephine Handeland, Lloyd Handeland and Everett Shaw, sang at the Church and Mrs. Albert Meyer played the funeral march. Interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery.
