M. M. Knapp, retired, division freight agent on the local division of the Rock Island railway, died Tuesday morning in his home at Estherville. His age was 91. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Knapp home.Mr. Knapp called on many Emmetsburg merchants and shippers while division freight agent from which position he retired in 1921. M. M. Knapp, Well Known Railroader, Dies at Estherville
M. M. Knapp, well known in Rock Rapids and for many years division freight agent for the Rock Island company, died at his home in Estherville Tuesday. In the early days Mr. Knapp was agent for the old B.C.R.&N. Railway company at Luverne, later the Rock Island, and was promoted to a position as travelling freight agent with the company. Later he was named division freight agent, a position he held until his retirement in 1921 because of age.Mr. Knapp was a familiar figure in the days when “railroading was railroading” and had a large number of friends here. He was 91 years of age, served with the Rock Island and Burlington for 37 years, and was also at one time with the Toledo, Peoria and Western as a train dispatcher and superintendent of telegraph.
