DEATH OF TWO PIONEERS

William Dundas and Mrs. Mary Barrett, Two of the Oldest Settlers in Emmet County Pass Away

CAME TO EMMET COUNTY DURING THE CIVIL WAR

Obituary – Dundas

William Dundas was born in the north of Ireland August 26, 1836, and died in Estherville, Iowa, Saturday, March 23, 1918, aged 81 years, 6 months and 27 days. The Dundas family came from Iowa to Canada and then to Illinois in 1861 and to Armstrong, Iowa, in 1865. There were eight brothers in the Dundas family, four of whom still live, Alexander of Greeley, Colorado; David of Armstrong; Alfred of Wilonia, Oregon; and James of Dayton, Oregon.

The departed tried frontier life in Oregon and Alaska for three years in his younger years and then returned to Iowa to live. He was united in marriage to Mary DeLay December 29, 1865. To this union were born two children, one of whom died in infancy, and the other, Alberta, along with mother, brothers, and other relatives was present at the funeral service Monday. The departed was of Scotch-Irish ancestry and of the Protestant faith, and in youth was christened in the Episcopal church.
