RUSSELL LINGENFELTER DIES IN CITY HOSPITAL

Passed Away Tuesday Night After a Short Illness

Russell Lingenfelter died at the City Hospital about ten o’clock Tuesday night of complications developing from a rupture that he sustained a short time ago when he fell from an electric light pole.

Last week he went to Des Moines to receive treatment for the rupture but upon his return found that he had not been benefited. He was operated upon but the relief was only temporary and he passed away last evening.

The date of the funeral has not been decided upon.

Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, Emmet County, Iowa; March 27, 1918.

-------------------------

Russell H. Lingenfelter was born in Estherville, Iowa, August 19, 1892, and died in the City Hospital March 26, 1918, aged 25 years, 7 months and 7 days. His early childhood days were spent in attending the public schools and assisting with the work about the home. When he grew to manhood he spent one year working for the Rock Island R. R. His natural bent seemed to be along the electrical lines and soon he found a position with one of the electricians located in Estherville. Later he worked as the assistant for the city electrician and about four months ago was promoted to the position of city electrician which position he held at the time of his death. Besides these positions he has been employed as stage manager at the Grand theater a part of the time and has read meters all over the town so he is well known in almost every home in the city.

He had long desired to join the army and assist his country in defeating the Germans. Twice he had tried to enlist but was not accepted as he could not pass the physical examination. He had recently signed up to join the government shipbuilders' work as an electrician and was awaiting his call. He had subscribed for each of the Army Y, M. C. A. drives and for all the Red Cross calls, and had purchased a Liberty Bond.

He leaves to mourn his early death his widowed mother, Mrs. O. Lingenfelter six brothers, Will, Frank and Ortie Lingenfelter of Holiday, North Dakota; George of Linton, North Dakota; Clarke and Lyle of Estherville; and five sisters, Mrs. John Martyr, Mrs. Henry Riler and Mrs. Harry Bixby of Estherville; Mrs. Chas. Yost of Basin, Wyoming; and Mrs. Dave Ingvall of Graettinger, Iowa, besides many nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. T. Frederic Catlin in the M.E. church Friday at 2:00 p.m. and the body was laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery.

Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, Emmet County, Iowa; April 3, 1918.
