Funeral services were held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger, Iowa at 10:30 .am., Saturday, February 9, 2008, for Alvin H. Poppinga. Pastor Tedd Rieke officiating. Interment was at the St. Paul’s of South Walnut Cemetery in Graettinger.

Alvin Henry Poppinga, the son of Henry and Reka (Ihnen) Poppinga, was born April 18, 1923, in Palmer, Iowa. He passed away Thursday, February 7, 2008, at Emmetsburg Care Center in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 84.

Alvin moved as a young child with his family to the Ringsted, Iowa, area where he attended the Hoprig School. He farmed until 1966, when he went to work for Godbersen and Smith Construction Company for nine years. The he was employed with the City of Graettinger for twelve years until his retirement in 1987. Alvin remained single his entire life.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger.

Grateful for having shared Alvin’s life are one sister, Doris Christensen, of Lakota, Iowa; and four nieces and nephews.

Preceding Alvin in death were his parents; and two sisters, Arlene and Vivian.
