An Aged Woman Gone
“Mother Rewey” died at her home in Ellsworth township, Tuesday, Mar. 2, 1897, after a long period of sickness. She was born in Otsego county, N.Y., August 25th, 1814. She was, therefore at the time of her death, 82 years, 7 months and 7 days old. Her maiden name was Lury Mallry [Lucy Malley]. She was married March 24, 1836, to Wilbur Rewey, who survives her after sixty-two years of married life. She was the mother of nine children, six of whom survive her. She came west from her New York home to Wisconsin in 1855 and moved to Emmet county, Iowa, in June 1869. Mother Rewey was converted at the age of eighteen and joined the Christian church, and has lived a consistent Christian life always. The writer was personally acquainted with the deceased and knew her to be a good, pious and kind hearted woman. She was a great lover of flowers and we have received many a beautiful bouquet from her hand all of which is yet fresh in memory. The neighbors will all miss her and join in heartfelt sympathy for the bereaved family. Rev. Wm. M. Evans officiated at the funeral services which were held at the home.

“Dearest mother thou has left us.
And thy loss we deeply feel;
But ‘tis God who hat bereft us;
He can all our sorrows heal.
