Jennie Jarvis Dead
Died at Seattle, Washington, on Friday July 21st
The sad intelligence of the death of Miss Jennie Jarvis at Seattle, Wash., reached Estherville last Monday and on Wednesday her remains arrived accompanied by her brother, F. M. Jarvis, and burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery Friday afternoon. Miss Jarvis was born in Emmet township, this county, April 28, 1868. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jarvis, pioneer residents of this county. She grew to womanhood here and in fact spent all of her life in this and Dickinson county until three years ago when she went west with her brother in hopes of improving her health. Four weeks prior to her death she underwent an operation for cancerous tumor. It was then learned that she could not possibly live. The best of medical assistance was constantly in attendance but to no avail. Her wish was to be brought back to Estherville to rest beside her aged parents in Oak Hill Cemetery and her brother carried out her wishes. It was here she played as a child, it was here she grew into girlhood and womanhood, it was here her busy life was spent, her battles fought and her faithful service rendered to the world and it was here her friends were and why should she not want to be laid at rest where dear friends she knew would plant a flower of friendship upon her grave.

Deceased was a highly respected lady. Among her friends she always ranked as a lady of culture and refinement. She possessed more than ordinary talent as an artist and some of her painting had been purchased at a good price and sent to the old country. At the time of her death she was forty-three years of age. Two brothers, C. W. Jarvis, of Davenport, Wash., and Mel Jarvis are left to mourn her sudden demise. Rev. Hurd conducted the funeral service Friday afternoon in the Methodist church. Deceased was a member of that church. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, August 2, 1911)

Miss Jennie Jarvis Passed Away at Seattle, July 21
Miss Jennie Jarvis, a well known former resident of this county, died at Seattle, Wash., July 25 [S/B 21]. The remains were brought her last Friday for burial in the old family cemetery lot here. The remains were accompanied here by her brother, F. M. Jarvis, of Seattle, and C. W. Jarvis and wife of Davenport, Oregon, and C. W. Jarvis’ daughter, Mrs. E. R. Schuler and husband of St. Paul, Minn. Burial was preceded by a short service. Miss Jennie Jarvis was born in Emmet township, this county, April 28, 1868, on the old Jarvis homestead now known as the Leupold farm. She lived there until her father, Chas. Jarvis, sold the farm in 1901. Mrs. Chas. Jarvis died in 1890. In 1901 Miss Jarvis went to Spirit Lake with her father and there they lived until her father’s death in 1908. At the time of her father’s death she was not well and went west with her brother, Mel, thinking that the coast climate might benefit her health. They settled in Seattle and lived there until the time of her death. It seems the cause of her death was a malignant tumor. She enjoyed the friendship of hosts of friends. Since the death of her mother in 1890 to the death of her father in 1908, she was the head of her father’s household, always administering to his wants and comforting him in his old age. Her life was one of self sacrifice. She was a true Christian character.

The Enterprise joins in sympathy to the family in sorrow. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, August 2, 1911)
