Former Dolliver Area Resident, Mr. Smith, Dies

DOLLIVER, Ia. – John Smith, 43, who was raised and educated in this area and graduated from Dolliver high school, died Monday at the Spencer, Ia., Municipal hospital, following a lingering illness. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith, who now live in Estherville.

He was born Oct. 26, 1911 at Danville, Ill., and moved with the family to a farm north of Gruver, Ia., when a young boy. In 1933 he was married to Alice Barret, Estherville, and for 11 years has been in the furniture business at Milford. H was serving his second term as mayor of Milford at the time of his death.

He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Shirley, and three sons, Larry Joe, John, and Dennis, all at home. His parents, six brothers, and three sisters also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Union Memorial church, Milford. The Rev. Maurice Frevert will officiate and burial will be in Milford cemetery.
