Fred Wolden dies; rites set Monday

C.F. (Fred) Wolden, 81, Wallingford, died at 1:28 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Hospital from a heart condition. He had been in failing health for the past four and a half weeks.

He was born Dec. 24, 1889, in Wallingford to Peter and Bertha Bergum Wolden. He received his education in Rierson school, Spring Grove School, and the High Lake area schools and Juhl College.

He was married June 17, 1925, to Ida Gunderson at Wallingford. They lived at Graettinger until 1933, when they moved to the Wolden homestead near High Lake. He retired in 1960, but remained living on the farm.

He was a veteran of WWI and served with the Army in France. He was active in wildlife and nature studies. He played the violin with the Calvary Gospel Orchestra.

He was choir director with Immanuel Lutheran Church at Wallingford, and the Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Gruver, and was also active in the Estherville Lutheran and Graettinger Lutheran Church during his lifetime.

He is survived by his wife, Ida; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Decker, Sacramento, Calif.; and one son, Louren Wolden, Estherville; six grandchildren; two brothers, Magnus Wolden, St. James, Minn.; Albert Wolden, Wallingford; one sister, Mrs. Ella Storvick, Albert Lea, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Gruver, with the Rev. Lauritz Mork officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery at Wallingford.

Visitation will be at the Reese-Henry Funeral Chapel in Estherville after 7 p.m. Saturday until noon Monday.
