A daughter was born to Mayor and Mrs. M. J. Groves Monday, October 9 [Cemetery record says October 8]. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, October 18, 1905)

Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Groves mourn the death of their infant daughter. The little one died Thursday night after only a short stay with the doting parents. This is the first child born to Mr. and Mrs. Groves after twelve years of married life and it seems indeed cruel that it could not have lived. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 18, 1905 – apparently wrong date on paper)

The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Groves died Friday [October 20, 1905] morning. The funeral services, which were private, were conducted by Rev. Richard Ellerby at the residence on South Ninth street Saturday morning and the remains were interred in Oak Hill cemetery. Mayor and Mrs. Groves have the sympathy of the community in the loss of their child. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, October 25, 1905)

Marietta, infant daughter of Mayor and Mrs. M. J. Groves died at the family residence, Friday morning at 3 a.m., Oct. 20, 1905. The funeral was held from the home Saturday, Rev. Richard Ellerby officiating. The interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. In this great loss befallen them, Mr. and Mrs. Groves can feel full assurance of deep public sympathy and we trust that they will find sweet consolation from the reflection that

“A little angel hovered with us,
In her smiles she talked with them.
Now she points the way above us
To the stars of Bethlehem.”

(Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, October 25, 1905)
