Mrs. F. L. Godfrey Dies; Resident Here Nearly 60 Years
Services Are Held at Presbyterian Church
Mrs. Frank. L. Godfrey died Thursday night at the age of 58 years. She lived in Estherville during most of her life and took an active part in the affairs of the community.

May E. Goff was born Aug. 31, 1869, at Estherville and has resided here with the exception of a few years when she lived at Denver, Col. She was married to Frank Godfrey May 15, 1883 [1888].

She was a member of the White Shrive and the Eastern Star and was an active member of the Presbyterian church, giving much of her time to the church activities. Her mother was the first to sign as a charter member.

Mrs. Godfrey is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Cora Vorhels of Fairfield, Iowa, and Mrs. Eva Gyldenvand of Estherville; a sister, Mrs. Cora Rhodes of Cedar Rapids, a brother, Edward Goff of Hillsdale, Wis.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. P. A. Davies Monday afternoon at the Presbyterian church. Burial was made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, December 28, 1927)

Obituary of Mrs. Frank L. Godfrey
May E. Goff was born in Estherville, Iowa, on the 31st day of August, 1869, and died at Estherville on the 22nd day of December, 1927, at the age of 58 years, 3 months and 19 days. With the exception of a few years when she resided at Denver, all of her life has been lived in Estherville. She has taken a vital and active interest in the social, fraternal and religious activities of the city through all of these years. She was a member of the White Shrine and Eastern Star at the time of her going. All of her life she has been deeply interested in the Presbyterian church giving it her faithful and loyal support. Her mother was the first to sign as a charter member of this church.

On the 15th day of May, 1888, she was married to Mr. Frank Godfrey. These have been thirty-nine happy years.

She leaves to mourn her going a loving husband, a grandmother known to all as grandmother Godfrey, two daughters, Mrs. Cora Voorhies of Fairfield, Iowa, and Mrs. Eva Gyldenvand of Estherville; one sister, Mrs. Cora Rhodes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and one brother, Mr. Edward Goff of Hillsdale, Wisconsin. There are two grandchildren. Besides these she has made a host of friends who will greatly miss her.

Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Monday afternoon conducted by her pastor. Burial was made at Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 28, 1927)
