Obituary of Mrs. Matilda Gipson
Mrs. Matilda Gipson nee Johnson was born in Sweden in the years 1849. She came to this county in 1881. In 1885 she was united in marriage to Peter Gipson. They have since made their home near or in Estherville, during the last 17 years residing at 526 S. 8th St. Their wedded life was blessed with four children. Two of these died, one in infancy and the other 8 years old. The other children are Albert near Terril and Anna, now Mrs. Patterson near Dickens. Mrs. Gipson has been in poor health for some time. Because of her increasing weakness and suffering she was taken to the home of her son five weeks ago. Here she passed away Friday morning, September 24. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Sweden. The funeral occurred Monday at 1 p.m. from the home of Albert Gipson near Terril and at 2 p.m. at Estherville Lutheran church, Rev. L. A. Mathre officiating. Interment was made at Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, September 29, 1926)
