Obituary
Jane Cole was born in Sharkboro, Vermont, March 13, 1842, and died in Estherville, Iowa, June 1, 1922, age 80 years, two months and 19 days.

When about 15 years old she moved [with] her parents to Waupon, Dodge County, Wisconsin, where on July 3, 1862 she was united in marriage to Dennis S. Adams. This union was blessed with one son, Dwight; also an adopted son, Ira.

In May 1869 with her husband and children she moved to Vinton, Iowa and later settled in Shellsburg, Iowa, where on April 15, 1895, after a sickness of short duration her husband passed away leaving her to mourn his death in the solitude of widowhood. About three years later she came to Estherville where her two sons lived. Here she bought a home in which she lived happily until about ten years ago when because of poor health and growing feebleness she was compelled to give up housekeeping and since that time she has made her home with her sons. During the last two years she has been shut in practically all the time and confined to her bed most of the time, growing ever weaker and more helpless until the end came on June 1st at about 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon.

More than forty-seven years ago in a great revival meeting where a large number were converted, Mrs. Adams sought and found her Saviour in the Mt. Pleasant United Brethren church of Shellsburg, Iowa, with which church she immediately united. After about eighteen years she changed her church affiliations and united with the Methodist Episcopal church in Shellsburg where her husband was an active member and an official in the church. Her membership still remains in that church.

She is survived by two sons and their wives; one brother, Chester Cole of Estherville; and one sister Mrs. Estelle Green of Spencer, Iowa. Mrs. Adams enjoyed the fellowship of many friends in former days when she was able to get around among them, but during the ten years of poor health and close confinement to her home, one by one they have passed away so that she came to feel that she had out-lived them all. In-deed how short are the years after all! How soon the years of childhood and youth pass into high noon and the afternoon becomes sunset and evening, and “One Clear Call for Me.” Sister Adams was beloved by all who knew her. She was a devout and faithful worshiper of the Christ. She was a great reader of books, but no other found so large a place in her heart as that containing the saying of the Master.

Funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Emma Ghoslin on 13th street on Friday afternoon with Rev. J. W. LeGrone her pastor in charge. The body was shipped back to Shellsburg for burial beside her husband. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 7, 1922)
