Fall is Fatal to Lineman
Clyde Edwards Passes at Sioux Falls Hospital Monday [March 8, 1943] of Injuries; Funeral Today

Injuries sustained in a fall from a pole February 18 caused the death Monday of C. L. Edwards, lineman for the Rock Island. Mr. Edwards who had been in the Sioux Valley hospital at Sioux Falls since the accident had been placed in a cast for back injuries and showed improvement for some time. He suffered a slight heart attack last week and a more severe one Sunday brought his death at 12:30 a.m. Monday. The fall was from 30 feet onto frozen ground when his safety belt broke.

Mr. Edwards came to Estherville in 1937 as division lineman with headquarters here. During his residence he had made a wide circle of friends who deeply mourn his untimely death. He was a member of the local Odd Fellow lodge and of the Electrical Workers union of the railroad.

After coming to Estherville in July 1939 Mr. Edward was married to Mrs. Libbie Prybl of Solon. His passing is mourned deeply by his widow, his step-son, Don Prybl, two sons by a previous marriage, Loland and Alvin Clyde Edwards, of Hamilton, Mo., his mother, Mrs. J. L. Edwards, a sister, Mrs. Virgil Reed and a brother, Earl Edwards of Winston, Mo., and a second brother, Paul Edwards of Kansas City, Mo.

In all his family relationships, Mr. Edwards was kindly devoted and sincere.

Clyde Loren Edwards was born Dec. 12, 1902, in Davis county, Winston, Mo., the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Edwards. He attended the schools at Winston, graduating from the high school there. Soon after completing high school he started working with the Rock Island railway, first on a bridge gang in 1924 as lineman out of Chicago.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at 2 o’clock from the Union Baptist church. The local Odd Fellow lodge had charge of the rites at the home and the Rev. Donald Haviland of Grace Episcopal church of the church services, assisted by Rev. G. E. Forrsell. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. Pall bearers were R. E. Johnson, Selby Broms, E. L. Farmer, Clarence Kurtz, Ray Bassett and Gilbert Amdahl. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 11, 1943)
