Another Pioneer Is Called Home
John Dundas Passes Away Last Evening at His Home on West Lincoln St.
Came to This County in 1865
Has Passed Through All the Trials and Tribulations of Early Pioneer LifeJohn Dundas, another of Emmet county’s pioneer residents, passed way last evening at his home on the west side of the river. Mr. Dundas has lived in Emmet county since 1865, living on a farm near Armstrong, until about twenty-two years ago, when he moved with his family to this city. Mr. Dundas is a native of Ireland, and at the time of his death was seventy-seven years of age. When he was but seven years of age he moved with his parents to Quebec, Canada. In 1861 the family moved to DeKalb county, Illinois, where they lived until moving to Emmet county. Mr. Dundas was a very faithful worker in the M.E. church and a devout Christian. He has been suffering for years with rheumatism and in later years with Bright’s disease, from which death came.
In 1868 he was united in marriage to Jane Gibbons, and to this marriage there were seven children born, of which one son, F. H. Dundas, of Armstrong, and three daughters, Mrs. Jas. Carroll, of Armstrong, Mrs. U. V. James, of this city, and Miss Dora who still resides at home, are still living, who with the loving wife and six brothers, are left to mourn his death.
The funeral services will be held at the M.E. church, at two o’clock, Thursday afternoon, Rev. F. F. Case, officiating. The remains will be laid to rest in the Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, July 7, 1915)

Has Been a Resident of Estherville for Twenty-Two Years – Funeral to Be Held at Two O’clock Thursday AfternoonMr. John Dundas, one of the pioneer settlers and most highly respected citizens of this county died Tuesday evening, July 6th, at his home on the west side of Bright’s disease. He was 77 years of age and has been a long sufferer from rheumatism.
John Dundas was born in Ireland seventy-seven years ago and moved with his family to Canada when he was seven years of age, settling near Quebec. The family moved to DeKalb county, Illinois, in 1861 and after residing there four years they came to Emmet county in 1865 where the deceased has since resided. He was united in marriage in 1868 to Jane Gibbons and to this union seven children were born, two sons and five daughters. One son, F. H. Dundas, of Armstrong, and three daughters, Mrs. Jas. Carroll, of Armstrong, Mrs. U. V. James of this city and Dora, who resides at home, are still living, two daughters and one son having preceded their father to the life beyond. In addition to the loving wife and children mentioned six brothers survive him: Wm. Dundas, of this city, Richard, James and Alfred who live near Portland, Oregon, and Aleck and Dave, of Armstrong. Twenty-two years ago the deceased quit farming and moved with his family to Estherville and they have since resided in our city. For several years he has been a patient sufferer from rheumatism and during recent years diabetes and Bright’s disease have troubled him and about ten days ago he was taken with his last illness and death came from a complication of diseases at 7:10 o’clock last evening. Funeral services will be held at the M.E. church at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, in charge of Rev. F. F. Case and burial will be made in the Oak Hill cemetery. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the residents of the entire county, throughout which the deceased has been known and respected for many years.
