Mrs. J. A. Campbell is reported quite sick, suffering from the ravages of consumption. (Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, December 2, 1887)

Died
In the northern part of town, Tuesday morning, December 27th, Mrs. Sarah Cameron Campbell, at the age of thirty-five. She was born in Arggleslein Scotland in 1852 and was married in 1878 to Mr. Jas. A. Campbell. After living for a few years in Glasgow they came to this county settling at first in Cedar Rapids Ia. The following spring 1883 the family came to this county and settled on a farm at Twelve Mile Lake where they remained until they came to town last February. Mrs. Campbell’s health began to fail about a year ago, their reason for leaving the farm was hoping that Mrs. C. would escape some of the hard work and thus have a better chance to recover, but in this latter point they were disappointed, she slowly but steadily declined death centering “in consumptions ghastly form” and as is usual with that disease she entertained hopes of recovering until within a few weeks if not a few days of her death, and was towards the last almost free from pain except during violent coughing spells. As her health was poor when she came to town preventing her meeting people she was almost an entire stranger to the community when she was laid aside five weeks before her death; the neighbors and others however did all they could do to add to her comforts and thus alleviate her sufferings. She has left a husband and five small children who have the sympathies of the community. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. Williams on Thursday afternoon. (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, January 5, 1888)

Mr. Campbell took three of his children to Cedar Rapids Monday morning. (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, January 12, 1888)
