Funeral Held Here for Mrs. C.E. Burkart
Mrs. Charles E. Burkart, who died Friday at the age of 48, was buried Sunday. The Rev. F. Yearnd, pastor of the Baptist church was in charge. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery.Rena Lucas Burkart was born Dec. 16, 1880, at Estherville. At an early age she became a member of the Baptist church, in which she has always been vitally interested. She was united in marriage to Charles E. Burkart Oct. 25, 1899.
To this union 12 children were born, Clarence, who is serving in the United States navy, Elmer of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. A. E. Burge of Scottsbluff, Neb., Mrs. Howard Waterman of Racine, Wis., John, Glenn, Charles, Allen, Lester, Esther, Anna, and Lucille of Estherville.
Mrs. Burkart is also survived by her father, G. N. Lucas, and four brothers, Walter of Motley, Minn., Charles of Leak, Minn., and Enas of Cedar Rapids, and H. L. of Estherville, and three sisters, Mrs. Roy Criss of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Grace King and Miss Maud of Estherville.
Out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral are Mr. and Mrs. Elias Amos, Mr. and Mrs. DeLinsey, George and Joseph Burkart, all of Vinton. Mrs. Burkart was much respected by her friends and neighbors, and was a loving wife and mother. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, June 20, 1929)
