PIONEER LADY RINGSTED DIES

Mrs. J.A. Mathiesen, 82, Was Long Ill

Mrs. J.A. Mathiesen, mother of Mrs. E.T. Sorum and C.J. Mathiesen of this city, died last evening at six o’clock at her home in Ringsted. She had been ill for several months but during the past week seemed to be gaining in strength.

Mrs. Mathiesen was one of the pioneers of the Ringsted community. She was 82 years old in November and came to this county from Sweden in 1870 and was married at Algona in 1873. Her husband died 7 years ago Friday.

Surviving Mrs. Mathiesen are five daughters, Mrs. Sorum of Estherville, Mrs. John Cole, Mrs. J.J. Fink, Mrs. Peter Nissen, Mrs. Lou Christian, all of Ringsted, and the son, Clarence Mathiesen of Estherville.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon from the Lutheran church at Ringsted and interment made by the side of her husband.

While Mrs. Mathiesen was essentially a home woman yet she and her family have been identified with the social and civic growth of the Ringsted community. She lived a full and beautiful life.
