Mrs. Louisa C. Smith Bently [Bentley] was born in Vermont September 24, 1831, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. E. Pelton, at Estherville, Iowa, June 2, 1911, at the ripe age of seventy-nine years, eight months and nine days. She was from old New England stock. Her childhood home was at Corinth, Vermont, and in the early days came with her parents to Wisconsin. She was united in marriage to Alvin J. Bently of Albion, Wisconsin, October 25, 1850. To this union eight children were born: Charles Bentley of Osage, Iowa; Amaretta V., who became Mrs. Rev. Cyrus Cook, and died at Wessington Springs, South Dakota; Alvin S. Bentley, deceased; Mrs. Louisa M. Pelton, of this city; Mrs. Anna S. Lacore, deceased; Mrs. Etta L. Roe, deceased; Addie L. Bentley, of Cherokee; and Mrs. Lizzie M. Anderson, deceased. Mrs. Bentley is the last of a family of three brothers and three sisters. She is preceded to the world beyond by her father and mother, three brothers and two sister, her husband and five children. There are one son, two daughters, sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren left to mourn her loss. Her husband died in 1887 and when her youngest daughter, Mrs. Anderson was married in 1889, she came to live with her daughter, Mrs. Pelton, where she has since made her home. While she spent a part of her time with her other children she called her home with Mrs. Pelton. She has been most of these later years an invalid, and has suffered much. Amid all her sufferings she had the kindest of care and was at the time of her going ready and resigned to the Father’s will. She was converted in youth and united with the United Brethren church in Wisconsin, at which time she asked to be immersed and was granted that privilege. She was convinced of the validity of immersion in her youthful days in Vermont among the Free Baptists. In later years she became a member of the Baptist church and at the time of her departure was a member of the Baptist church in Estherville.

Funeral was held from the Baptist church Monday afternoon, Rev. Vannoy preaching the sermon. She was buried in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator & Republican, Estherville, IA, June 7, 1911)
