Fred’ck Benson Answers Call
Deceased Had Been Ill for the Past Two Years

The remains of Frederick Benson were brought her for burial on Sunday last. Mr. Benson has been away from the city for the past two years. The family, however, have resided here during that time. Mr. Benson has been a resident of this city for many years and has for the greater portion of the time been engaged in the real estate business.

He was born in Hadeland, Norway, on October 29, 1856. At the age of seven he moved to America with relatives and lived with Mr. and Mrs. Everson, in Wisconsin and Minnesota, for many years. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Hanson, in the year 1886, and to this union there were born three sons and a daughter, Henry, John, and the daughter, Bertha, survive him.

Mr. Benson was an energetic worker and was at all times a most faithful husband and father, always looking to the interests and future of his family. The funeral services were held from the home on Monday afternoon, the Rev. Olson officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the Norwegian cemetery. The deceased is survived by a wife, three children and a sister, who resides in California.

Those from out of the city who were present at the funeral services were Clara Bergman and Mrs. Elmer Severson, of Ottosen; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Anderson and John Nelson of Jackson, and Mrs. Everson, of Superior. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, October 27, 1915)

Word was received here Friday [October 22, 1927] morning of the death of Fred Benson at Cherokee where he had been in the state hospital for treatment the past year. Mrs. Benson at once left for Cherokee and accompanied the body home. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon.

Frederick Benson was born in Hadiland, Norway, October 29, 1856. At the age of seven years he came to this country with relatives and settled in Wisconsin. Later he moved to Minnesota with Mr. and Mrs. Eveson [Everson], where he was married in 1886 to Miss Mary Hanson. To this union four children were born, three sons and one daughter, all of whom survive except one son who died in infancy. Those now living are Henry, John and Miss Bertha, all of Estherville. Besides the children and wife he is survived by one sister who resides in California. Soon after his marriage he moved to Iowa locating in Estherville where the family has ever since resided.

Mr. Benson was a very industrious and energetic man, most of his time since reaching manhood being devoted to the real estate business.

Those in attendance at the funeral were Miss Clara Bergman, Mrs. Elmer Severson of Otteson, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Anderson and Mrs. John Nilson of Jackson, Minnesota, and Mrs. Eveson [Everson] of Superior, a lady eighty-eight years of age with whom Mr. Benson lived until his marriage.
