Mrs. D. F. Batman Laid to Rest Monday Afternoon
Anna Jane Benner was born March 26, 1872, in Fremont County, Iowa. When a child she moved with her parents to Woodbury County where she was married to Daniel Batman on December 28, 1890. To this union were born seven children. Two passed away in infancy. Daniel Elmer passed away in 1926. Those living to mourn her death are her children, Mrs. Nettie Hurst of Everly, Gertrude Scott and Theodore Batman, Estherville, and Mrs. Mildred Jones, Seattle, Wash.; also twelve grandchildren and two brothers, John Benner of Omaha, Nebr., and Elmer Benner, of Blytheville, Ark. Besides numerous other relatives.The greater part of her life she lived around Hornick, Iowa. In 1914 they moved to Pipestone, Minn., and later to Birch Tree, Mo., coming to Estherville in1921.
In early life she united with the Christian Church to which she has been a faithful member attending the services as long as her health permitted. Four years ago she became ill with heart trouble, from which she never recovered but grew weaker until the end came peacefully at her home on West Emory St. Saturday, June 13, 1931.
Funeral services were held Monday at two o’clock at the Christian church conducted by Rev. Alva Ragsdale. Burial was made in the Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 17, 1931)
