C. S. Barber Pioneer, Dies Sat.
Had Resided in Emmet County 72 Years – Funeral Services at Presbyterian Church Monday

The Estherville community was saddened Saturday by the death of Charles S. Barber, 79, pioneer resident of Emmet county, which occurred at 6 o’clock in the morning after a serious illness of two weeks.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 1:30 at the house and at the Presbyterian church at 2 o’clock. The Rev. R. C. Mitchell of Cherokee and the Rev. A. G. Bailey, officiated at the service. Pall bearers were the church elders, Dr. W. E. Bradley, R. O. Clark, Frank Hutchinson, J. H. Orvis, Charles Jackson and John Darling. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery.

Mr. Barber was a resident of this county for 72 years, coming here from Delavan, Wis., where he was born Oct. 2, 1855. When the Barber family came to this county they lived in the first log cabin at Emmet Grove. He farmed for several years and then became engaged in the real estate and loan business..

On Feb. 25, 1894, he united with the Presbyterian church and was an active church worker while his health permitted. He was elected as an elder of the church in 1899, an office which he held at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife and one brother, Bert Barber, of this city.

Out-of-town folks who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Nolte, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Knoop and son Bernard, Mrs. Frank Hilman and Mrs. Eleck Knoop of Marble Rock, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Knoop and daughter Buelah of Rockford, and Mr. and Mrs. Gray and Mr. and Mrs. Alton of Pipestone, Minn.
