Bertha Wellendorf Monsikka 1873-1923

Mrs. Monsekka (nee Wellendorf) was born in Wendtorf, Schlesvig, Holstein, Germany, Nov. 30, 1873. She was brought up in the Lutheran faith in Germany. Shortly after her confirmation she came to America with her father. They came to Clinton county, Iowa, in 1888 and then in 1889 to Emmet county, Iowa.

She was married to Alfred Monsekka in 1891 and they have lived at Estherville and in the vicinity since their marriage. She died Jan. 18, 1923, and leaves to mourn her loss her husband and two brothers, Asmus and Henry Wellendorf, also a neice Miss Emma Wiese.

Funeral services were conducted from the home at 12:30 and from the Estherville Lutheran church at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, in charge of Rev. S. A. Berge. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, January 24, 1923)
