Death Takes Mrs. Weaver Unexpectedly

The community received a sudden and unbelievable shock Tuesday [December 21, 1948] afternoon when the announcement came of the very sudden death of Mable Vestrem Weaver wife of Frank Weaver. People could not believe it as she was well known and many had seen her very recently.

Mrs. Weaver was assisting afternoons at the George Robinson Jewelry store. She walked from her home to the store. At the corner of the Mack Groves home she said later she felt a pain in her side and arm.

When she came into to the store she told Mr. Robinson she did not feel good. He told her to go into the back room of the store and sit down. He went back to see her in a few minutes and she seemed very ill. He wanted to get a doctor and take her home. She said she was all right and there was no one at home. In a few minutes she wanted to be taken to the Park View Clinic. Mr. Robinson took her there and left thinking she was all right. About four o’clock they phoned him she had passed away.

Mr. Weaver was out on the road and did not know of her death until he arrived home. None of the family were with her at the time of her death. A few minutes before her death she said to tell her son she would be home for supper.

Mrs. Weaver was for many years with the L.M. Christensen Company and was very well known in both country and city. She was always very agreeable to all. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her.

County Recorder Osmundsen was with her sister Mrs. Weaver for a time but was told Mrs. Weaver was all right but needed quiet and rest and she returned to her office. Her husband was located in Spirit Lake. He was trying to get home in time to take Mrs. Weaver home.

Mrs. Weaver was born in Emmetsburg on April the 10th, 1891. She moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Vestrem to this city in 1901. She was a graduate of the Estherville schools. She was united in marriage to Frank Weaver in Sibley and they have resided here since their marriage.

She is survived by her husband and one son Jack 18. Funeral services will be held on Friday from the Sternborg Funeral home at 2:15 and from the Episcopal church at 2:30 the Rev. Robert G. Purrington officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 23, 1948)
