Aged Man Died Tuesday Morning
John J. Warner Passed Away at Home of His Daughter, Mrs. Will Dick

John J. Warner was born in Somerset county, Penn., October 28, 1840. He spent his childhood up to the age of nine years in his native county, when After the civil war he located in Blackhawk county,he removed with his parents to Accident, Md. Iowa, renting a farm there, and for six years lived near Waterloo. He was united in marriage with Sarah M. Fulton, October 18, 1867. To this union were born eight children: Edward C., of Lake Madison, So. Dak.; Mrs. William Dick, of this city; John S., of Seattle, Wash.; William H., of this city. The four younger children dying in infancy. In the fall of 1872 he moved to Canton, Lincoln county, Dakota Territory, where he had taken a claim in Dayton township. Here he farmed until 1889, then moved to Canton and engaged in the livery business. In 1898 he moved to DeSmet, So. Dak., where he farmed for two years. In 1900 he moved to Estherville where he has made his home until his death occurred Tuesday morning, September 30th. He was 83 years, 11 months and 2 days old at death. Two sons are unable to attend the funeral on account of sickness. Mr. Theo Dick, of Cedar Rapids, Albert Dick, of St. Paul, Mrs. Harry Argetsinger, of St. Paul, and Mrs. T. E. Anderson, of Estherville, Miss Rose Dick, of Estherville, grandchildren of Mr. Warner, were here to attend the funeral. Mr. Warner has long been a member of the local Baptist church. A few days before he died, and about the last words he spoke, he said, “I’m going home.” The funeral services are being held at the home at 1217 east Howard street today. Rev. W. F. Huxford officiating. Burial will be made at Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, October 1, 1924)
