Wm. J. Warner Died Last Thursday Eve
Well Known and Highly Respected Resident of This City for Many YearWilliam J. Warner was born in Alexandria, Mo., November 4, 1852. He died Thursday morning, August 4, 1921 at the Coleman Hospital following an operation. He was 68 years and 9 months old. He was married in1879 to Mary A. Burnett and to them were born two sons, Joseph E. and Robert G. both of whom with their mother survive the deceased.
Mr. Warner moved from Alexandria, Mo. to Albert Lea where he engaged in the hotel business. In the year 1913 he moved to Estherville, Iowa where for a while he was time-keeper at the Chicago and Rock Island round house, later he carried the mail and for the last few years he has conducted a second hand business..
He was confirmed in Grace Episcopal church on November 18, 1920.
He was a gentleman of the old school. He had a happy winning disposition that made him affectionately known among all people as “Dad” and “Unkie.” Boys and men only nickname those that they like, measured by this standard his friends were many. It is a worth while life that at its close brings so many such expressions as, “He was a fine man,” “He always had a smile,” “A good man,” “Always square,” “We’ll miss him.”
The funeral services were held from the home on Sunday afternoon, August 7, 1921, at 3 o’clock. The services were in charge of his Rector and friend the Reverend Alvin Scollay Hock. The sermon was taken from St. Mathew 12:35. “A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things.”
May light perpetual shine upon him and may he rest in peace. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 10, 1921)
