Obituary of Mrs. Francelia S. Pelton
Mrs. Francelia S. Pelton, the second child of Rev. and Mrs. Timothy Brigham, was born in Oneida county, New York, January 30, 1839, and died at her home in Tacoma, Washing, March 6, 1926, aged 87 years, 1 month and 5 days. As a girl she early showed deep interest in and shared the responsibilities of the home, assisting her mother in her duties in an unusual way. She came with her parents to McHenry county, Illinois, about 1850. In 1855, having been united in marriage to Mr. Stephen Pelton, came with him to Waverly, Iowa, where Mr. Pelton was engaged for several years in the wagon-making business. Then having purchased a farm in the northern part of the county, they located five miles south of Fredericksburg. Here they lived until they moved to Emmet county in the summer of 1882. They purchased a farm near the east edge of Estherville, where hey resided until the spring of 1911.

Mr. and Mrs. Pelton were active in religious work, and were constituent members of the First Baptist churches in Waverly and Estherville. Mrs. Pelton took a deep interest in Sunday school work, usually teaching a class. Her earnest Christian life shed its influence in the home, and was helpful in leading the six boys that were born in the home to definite decision for her Savior.

After Mr. Pelton’s death in 1911, she lived in Tacoma, Wash., with her oldest son Clarence E. who is in business in that city. Her health has been very good for one of her years, so that she has been able to do the work in caring for the house. She greatly enjoyed a birthday party in her honor on her 87th birthday. Death came as a result of the infirmity of years, and she peacefully fell asleep. She is survived by her three sons, Clarence E. of Tacoma, Wahington; Rev. Frank E., pastor of the First Baptist church, Sparland, Illinois; and Arthur C. of Kingston, Illinois. The last named is sick, so that he was unable to attend the funeral. She is survived also by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Frank E. and daughter, Mrs. J. E. Thomas, wife of the Supt. Of schools of Goldfield, Ia., attended the funeral. The service was held at the Baptist church Wednesday forenoon. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, April 7, 1926)
