Death of F. Kohlstadt
Aged Citizen Passes Away on the Anniversary of His WeddingFrederick Kohlstadt died at his residence on north third street Monday evening, June 16th, at the age of eighty years. The date of his death was also the date of his wedding anniversary. He had been sick and confined to his home for nearly two years. He was an excellent citizen and will be greatly missed by his many friends in Estherville.
Deceased was born in Germany on April 19, 1833, and died June 16, 1913, aged eighty years, one month and twenty-seven days. He came to America when twenty-one years old and soon after he engaged in conducting provision trains across the plains to the Pacific coast. He enlisted in the Union army in 1861, joining the second Minnesota Battery, light artillery, and serving three years and four months. After the war he settled in Illinois where he resided four years, when he removed to Floyd county, Iowa, coming to Estherville twelve years ago, residing here continuously up to the time of his death. He was married in Freeport, Illinois, June 16, 1865, to Mary Ludy, to which union was born five children, namely: Mrs. Ann Peitzke, of Woden, Iowa; J. L. Kohlstadt, of Klemme, Iowa; Charles E. Kohlstadt of Twelve Mile Lake Township, this county, and Mrs. Lydia Withers, of Floodwood, Minnesota.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning at the family home conducted by Rev. H. C. Hurd, pastor of the Christian church, and the remains interred in Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, June 24, 1913)
