Mrs. J. J. Klopp Dies Sunday; Heart Failure
Had Been Semi-Invalid Several Years – Funeral on WednesdaySunday [April 1, 1934] night at midnight for the second time in four months death entered the Klopp home this time taking the mother, Mrs. J. J. Klopp, 79. Mr. Klopp died October 30, 1933. While Mrs. Klopp had been a semi-invalid for several year of heart disease, her last illness was of less than five days duration and started with a slight cold. Miss Dorothy Klopp, county auditor, lived with her mother and a second of the three daughters, Mrs. J. E. Torrens and her son John of Minneapolis have been here for the past week. Another daughter, Mrs. John Brown resides at International Falls, Minn. A granddaughter Susan Brown also survives. Two of their five children, a daughter Birdie and a son John died in their youth.
Mrs. Klopp was born Susan E. Ammon on July 1, 1854 in Crawford county, Ind. She was married to John J. Klopp on Nov. 15, 1876 at Decorah, Iowa and in 1885 the family moved to Estherville. Mr. Klopp was one of the early druggists of the town. He also served in public office as a member of the Emmet county board of supervisors, of the Estherville school board and as county auditor for 10 years. Mrs. Klopp was active socially during her long residence here. She was a member of Grace Episcopal church and of AY chapter P.E.O. and carried her full share of responsibilities in both as long as her health would permit.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon at three o’clock from the home on North Seventh street. Rev. A. G. Bailey of the Presbyterian church will be in charge. Interment will be made in the family lot at Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, April 3, 1934)
