Mrs. Walter Sampson died very suddenly Tuesday night at her home on South Tenth street. Although she had been ill for some time her death was unexpected and came as a great shock to relatives and friends. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Frank Van Velzer, and two sisters, Mrs. Galbraith of Ballatin, Minnesota and Miss Myrtle of this city, a husband, three children a son and two daughters. The time of the funeral has not been learned.

Mrs. Walter Sampson Had Lived Here Thirty Six Years – Buried Saturday

Mrs. Amy May Sampson who died at her home in Estherville last Tuesday [September 29, 1925] had made her home here for 36 years, having moved here from Postville with her parents in 1889. She had been born at Postville on December 25, 1875 and was past 49 years old at the time of her death.

On March 13, 1895 she was united in marriage to Walter H. Sampson. To this union seven children were born, all but one of whom with the husband survive. The children are: Mrs. Hazel Brewer, New York City; Mrs. Wilma Lucas, Harold Sampson and Marion Sampson of Chicago and Thelma and Bernice Sampson of Estherville. Mrs.
Sampson is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Frank Van Velzer, and two sisters, Miss Myrtle Van Velzer of this city and Mrs. Galbraith of Ballatin, Minn.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon with Rev. H. L. Olmstead of the Christian church in charge. Burial was made in Oak Hill cemetery. Mrs. Sampson was a member of the Christian church. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 7, 1925)

Amy May Van Velzer was born at Postville, Allamakee County, Iowa, in 1889. She was united in marriage to Walter H. Sampson on March 13, 1895. To this union seven (7) children were born: Hazel, Wilma, Harold, Marion, Thelma, Winsome, Bernice.

Mrs. Sampson united with the Estherville Christian Church of Christ on November 24, 1924. Her health was such that she did not attend the services often.

She leaves to mourn her passing, a husband, Walter H. Sampson, and seven children; Mrs. Hazel Brewer, New York City, N.Y.; Mrs. Wilma Lucas, Chicago; Harold Sampson, Chicago; Marion Sampson, Chicago; Thelma Sampson and Bernice Sampson of Estherville, Iowa. Besides these a mother, Mrs. Van Velzer, Estherville, Iowa.
