Death of Mrs. Electa Hewitt
Aged Lady Succumbs to an Attack of Pneumonia While Visiting Near Terril.
Mrs. Electa Martin Hewitt, widow of the late D. S. Hewitt, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. W. Ditch, near Terril, Wednesday evening at 5 o'clock. She had been visiting at the home of her son in Terril, and not feeling well, asked to be taken home. She reached home Tuesday afternoon. That night she became rapidly worse and developed pneumonia, dying the next day.The funeral services were held at the Christian church, Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H. C. Hurd, former minister and friend of the family. The remains were interred by the side of her husband in Oak Hill cemetery.
Miss Electa Martin, was born February 27, 1848, in Fairfield, New York, and died at Terril, Iowa, Dec. 29, 1915, aged 67 years 10 months and 2 days. She was married to D. S. Hewitt, May 7, 1867, to which union seven children were born, four of whom survive, namely; Mrs. A. H. House, of Wadena, Minn., Mrs. C. W. Ditch and Claude Hewitt, of Terril, and Harley, living near Superior. Since the death of her husband, three years ago, Mrs. Hewitt has lived and visited among her children, passing the time in helpful and worthy ways. She had many friends, was of free and openhearted disposition. She was a member of the United Brethren church in Illinois, and lived an upright, hopeful religious life.
Beside the children, Mrs. Hewitt leaves to mourn her demise, three brothers, Madison, of Glidden; Henry and Owen of this place; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Hewitt, Mrs. Rhoda Plumley and Mrs. Nettie Sells, of Illinois, and Mrs. Carrie Brown, of Glidden, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.
