Sunday afternoon Otto Brown died at the Harcourt Hospital of blood poisoning caused by a cancer from which he had been a sufferer for nearly a year. Funeral was held Wednesday forenoon from the Catholic church, the Elks having the body in charge. The burial was made at Oak Hill cemetery.
Otto Brown was born in Germany August 1st, 1862, and died at 3 o'clock November 15, 1914, aged 52 years, 3 months and 14 days.
In 1888 he came to this country settling in Cedar Rapids, and one year later entered the employ of the old B. C. R. & N. Ry. Company in which service he remained until the road was turned over to the Rock Island Railway company. He remained with the latter company until this year when he was forced to quit on account of ill health.
February 3, 1895, he was united in marriage to Miss Hattie Donahue of this city. One son, Harry, blessed this union. Since his marriage he has lived in Estherville almost continuously until his death.
He was a hardworking man and a good citizen. He was at one time a member of the city council and proved to be a conscientious and painstaking official. He was one of the early members of the Elks lodge of this city, and was one of its most beloved members.
Besides his wife and son, two brothers, Herman of Cedar Rapids and Carl of Chicago, and three sisters in Germany are left to mourn his untimely death.

ANOTHER SAD DEATH
Otto Brown Passes to His Reward After Long Illness
Last Sunday afternoon, [Nov. 15, 1914] at the Harcourt hospital, Otto Brown, after several years of vain struggling against the ravages of a destroying cancer, passed away, his spirit departing for that unknown country from whence no traveler returns. Otto Charles Brown was born in Palmer, Germany, August 1st, 1862, being at the time of his death fifty-two years of age. He came to this country in 1888 and has been employed practically all these years as a blacksmith in the local Rock Island shops, except for one year which was spent at Cedar Rapids. The widow and one son, Harry, are left to mourn his death. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and this organization attended the funeral in a body in testimony of their respect for the departed brother. For several years Mr. Brown has suffered from a cancer and notwithstanding various treatments taken at different cities he has been unable to secure any relief and since his last trip to Chicago he has held no hopes of surviving and has patiently awaited the summons which would relieve him from his long suffering. The bereaved wife and son have the sympathy of the entire community.
