MARK C. KARR DIES SUDDENLY

Well Known Young Man Succumbs to Appendicitis After Brief Illness

The death of Mark C. Karr occurred Friday, January 9, at the local hospital, caused from a ruptured appendix. Mr. Karr was ill only a week and his death was a shock to his many friends in this city.

Mr. Karr was well known in Estherville having been in the automobile business here for several years. He was a member of the firm of Ryder & Karr, and before that time had been employed in several of the local garages.

Those surviving him are his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. 0. Karr, one sister, Zelma, two brothers, Charles and Dr. L.A. Karr.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge who had charge of the funeral services at the Episcopal church on Saturday, January 10. Rev. Hock conducted the services at the church, the Elks having charge of the services at the grave. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery.

Obituary.

Mark Clarence Karr was born on September 7, 1890, at Bloomington, Illinois. At the age of two years he, with his parents, moved to Webster City, Iowa, where he attended the public schools, graduating from the high school.

When seventeen years of age he went to Texas, where he was in the automobile business for three years. He came to Estherville in March, 1907, being employed by Walter Crowell. Later he was employed by Fred White in the garage business.

Mr. Karr was associated with C. W. Ryder in the garage business for several years, under the firm name of Ryder & Karr. On November 1, 1917, he sold his interests in the business to Mr. Ryder and later was employed by Geo. Gruwell. On September 30, 1917, he was married to Miss Mayme Hayden.

He was ill only a week, his death occurring January 9th from appendicitis. He leaves his wife, his parents, Mr., and Mrs. C. Karr; one sister, Zelma, and two brothers, Chas. and G. A., to mourn his death.
